Safari Advice

Advice from the people who actually run the safaris

Safari Advice is tribal knowledge from tour operators with more than twenty years in Kenya’s parks between them. No sponsored lodge lists, no brochure language: just what we tell our own guests.

The site is written by Chacha and the VPAAL team — a senior safari guide, and the guides, driver-guides and trip planners he works with every season. Between them they have led well over 500 safaris across the Masai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu, Tsavo, the Rift Valley lakes and the coast. It is a publication of Chacha Safari Guide and is linked to VPAAL, the tour operator whose safaris, hotels and destinations you will see linked throughout our articles.

Why trust our advice

Most safari content online is written by people who have never slept in a tent in Tsavo or waited four hours at a Mara River crossing. We have. Twenty-odd years and several hundred trips between us, the recommendations here are simply what we tell our own guests about timing, wildlife, lodges, logistics, budgets and safety, with the prices, months and park gates named.

How this site works

Browse by category from the menu, or start with all articles. Where we mention a park, a tour or a lodge, we link to the matching page on VPAAL so you can see the real itineraries and book directly.
